Final Essay Argument

New media has taken massive amounts of criticism from various sources. It seems every American has some idea about the negative effects of new media whether they be true or false. The idea that new media has no real-life benefits to help instruct and grow our workforce has been derived from this state of mind. On the contrary, research has revealed that this statement is not factual and new media is actually doing the opposite. As technologies grow so does the educational system in order to cope with the ever-changing world. The learning system today is much different from the traditional school. Much of what we see is through online interactions and an education that is personalized for each individual. This has been shown to be highly successful and the rate at which children are advancing is much greater than what had been seen before. There is skepticism surrounding this argument as well. The fact that the traditional way of teaching has worked since the founding of this nation carries a fair amount of weight. This also relates to the reality that the new media educational system is still very young and though early results are successful there is no indication that it will continue this way. Both of these arguments have truth behind them but there comes a point where the idea of change can have the potential to become greater than before and further progress our society. This change would not be a quick and subtle one but given time the integration of new media styles into the traditional school will allow for an easy transition into the new form of education. Complete isolation of every child into their personalized educational journey is not the goal of this either. Interaction with peers is a necessity in order to develop group skills such as communication and working together. In order for the face-to-face interactions to coexist with personalized learning a new system would need to be created. A system where the students are able to go and work on their own material but also be able to interact with other students through a recess or lunch. Possible group projects would be established in order to show the students how to fairly share a workload and work together to reach the desired goal. Though this style of education is fairly new research results are already proving its success. Soon the traditional school will be changed and a new future will be molded due to the beneficial learning of personalized education.

  1. It is interesting to see your ideas about the advancements in technology and how that is affecting the way one is taught growing up. I like how you decided to try and find information as to how this could be useful because everyone else feels that it could be negative. One thing I want to inform you on is that some of the sentences in your paper that do need corrections, such as adding comma’s and so on. I understand that this is an outline for of what you are planning to write, I just wanted to make sure you knew there were some minor errors. I would have liked to have seen your plan on how you wanted to break up your paragraphs so I could have given some input on that. In my opinion, after reading what you are planning to incorporate into this essay, my suggestion would be to start with some of the negative information and then work your way into the positive, as you have done with the outline. I hope I was able to help.

  2. Like I said before, I really like how you are focusing on the positive of new media and you do a really good job explaining how we are benefitting from it. There are so many possibilities in the world of new media that we all should be focusing more on not only how it benefits us, but also how we can make it benefit us. I like how you start off with the negative affects and i definitely think you should continue that all the way through your paper to get both sides of the story. Over all, you've done a great job starting and figuring out what you want to do! Can't wait to read it!

  3. This is a topic that greatly interests me as I've wondered for a long time how we can endeavor to incorporate our new information technologies and social networking tools in order to change the way we teach and learn. In your research I hope you find some interesting studies regarding test classes with unorthodox teaching methods that incorporate new media. I think the results would speak volumes as to the positive effects of revolutionizing the learning experience in our school systems.

  4. Your topic is extremely relevant today. As you stated, new media technology has been subject of a lot of negative criticism, and I believe that it is important to understand the full impact of it on society. I think it is very important to include arguments from both sides of the issue, and I was pleased when I saw that you did just that.

What I failed to see in your blog post was what these new media teaching techniques include; is it the use of computers, smart boards, and video? Is it through online seminars? Is it like our class, a mix between traditional classroom lecture and online discussions? Also, what is your standpoint? Are you pro or con?
